I completed the B.Com (Accounting) and B.Com (Accounting) (Hons) degrees cum laude at the University of Pretoria and completed articles at KPMG Pretoria in 1991. I passed the CA (SA) qualifying exam on first attempt in 1989. In 1995, I obtained the M.Com (Tax) degree and was awarded the prize for the best M. Com (Tax) student. After a period of 20 months in the Operational Research department of the Commissioner for Inland Revenue, I joined the Deloitte Tax team in Pretoria in 1993. I moved to KPMG Pretoria in 1995 and was made Tax Partner heading up the Pretoria Tax Department in 1997.

A highlight of my career in the 1990’s was a three-month secondment to the Global Tax Solutions Department of KPMG in London. During my 23-year career as tax partner at KPMG, I filled numerous leadership positions in Tax that included Head of Pretoria Tax, Head of National Tax, Head of Tax Management Services, Head of Global Compliance Management Services, Head of Durban Tax and Head of the VAT department. I established the Tax Technology department as well as Accounting and Audit Related Tax Services business units. These roles required me to be connected to the global KPMG network. I left KPMG in March 2020 to provide independent tax practitioner services.

I have experience in Agriculture, Automotive, Banking, Mining, Transport, Consumer Markets, Telecommunication, Manufacturing, Construction, Local Authorities, Municipal Entities, Public Benefit Organizations and Professional Services sectors.

I am a very capable presenter and regularly present webinars and face-to-face courses to members of the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners, The Tax Faculty and clients. I presented numerous lectures to M.Com (Tax) /LLM students of the University of Pretoria on mergers and acquisitions and capital gains tax.

My multi-disciplinary skills in Corporate Tax, VAT, Employment Tax, Tax Compliance, Tax Disclosure and Reporting and Tax Dispute Resolution makes me particularly suitable for tax due diligences, tax diagnostics/health check, AFS disclosures and tax management/governance projects.
